13 Cents marks a defining moment in Elmaz’s artistic journey, his introduction to the art world through a body of work that translates personal history into a visual language. Drawing from memory, grief, identity, abandonment, and emotional reclamation, Elmaz employs surreal metaphor to articulate what cannot be contained by words alone.
The exhibition unfolds as an intimate yet confrontational offering, a gallery of contradictions where love and resentment coexist, inherited truths clash with those erased, and personal history resists linear resolution.
Through 13 Cents, Elmaz claims space within the contemporary art landscape by asserting visibility. These works do not seek closure; instead, they leave traces, provoke questions, and refuse to let emotional truths fade quietly.
This body of work spans multiple phases of his creative production and positions Elmaz as an artist for the curious, the wounded, the misunderstood, and the resilient. The works speak from a liminal space, where stories blur, anger sharpens perception, and meaning surfaces only through fragmentation.
Abdulla Elmaz is a visual artist whose practice exists at the intersection of conceptual storytelling and symbolic portraiture. Rather than relying on fixed symbols or signature styles, Elmaz treats motifs as living elements, forms that evolve, fracture, and reassemble in step with his emotional and creative transformation.
Chairs, hands, water, and the color red recur throughout the exhibition, not as decorative devices, but as vessels of shifting meaning: identity becomes burden, then release; witnesses become narrators; healing coexists with danger; and clarity emerges only through rupture. These works shed light on Elmaz’s deep investment in emotional honesty, nostalgia, and the psychological tensions embedded in creative industries that shape, consume, and sometimes discard those within them.
13 Cents is not an answer. It is an arrival.
