A group exhibition presenting UAE-based independent artists
Dubai, UAE
In this new exhibition format, SUPERMARKET borrows its title from the language of retail to examine how artworks are displayed, circulated, and assigned value today.
At a time when artistic production is increasingly intertwined with everyday life, the exhibition collapses the distance between artwork and commodity, asking how culture is packaged, consumed, and desired within contemporary systems of visibility.
Bringing together UAE-based artists without gallery representation, SUPERMARKET considers art as both cultural expression and object of exchange. Centered on accessibility, it invites a broader public to encounter contemporary art beyond the usual assumptions of exclusivity, price, and gatekeeping.
All works are presented within an accessible price range, supporting independent artists and their practices while widening the community of potential collectors. This gesture is not only economic but also symbolic: it challenges the idea that art must remain financially or culturally out of reach, and proposes collecting as a more open and participatory act.
At the heart of the exhibition lies a simple yet urgent question: what does it mean to “shop” for art today? Are we acquiring objects, ideas, identities, or forms of cultural capital? What produces value, and what shapes our sense of urgency, aspiration, and worth?
Rather than offering definitive answers, SUPERMARKET makes these conditions visible. It presents the exhibition as a space where encounter, exchange, and reflection converge, revealing the mechanisms through which art is legitimised, desired, and circulated, while proposing a more direct relationship between artist, artwork, and audience.
